Occupational Therapist

Josie Roche is an Occupational Therapist passionate about supporting children and young people to reach their full potential. She has experience working with a wide range of needs and goals, and holds a Masters of Occupational Therapy from The University of Queensland.

Josie’s therapy approach is built on connection and fun. She works closely with families to set meaningful goals in the areas of self-care, learning, and leisure, and provides practical strategies that can be carried over into home, school, and community settings. Josie celebrates what makes each child unique and strives to create a safe, positive environment where they can feel confident and engaged.

Josie believes in a strengths-based approach, focusing on what children can do and building from their unique abilities and interests.

Availability

Josie is available for appointments at PhysioFIX every second Friday. Home, school, and childcare visits may also be arranged upon request.

Sharyn Sue See

Clinical Pilates Instructor

Sharyn completed her Diploma of Clinical and Rehabilitative Pilates in 2018. She has also completed a number of Pilates matwork and other Pilates equipment courses and completed a Certificate IV in Fitness, and in Training and Assessment and instructs reformer and matwork classes across Brisbane and the Bayside area

Sharyn has extensive experience in the area of personal training, small group training and group classes. She was previously a Head Program Coach for Group Fitness giant Les Mills, and appeared in a number of educational DVDs for the company. She spent her time traveling between Australia, Asia and New Zealand, conducting initial and advanced instructor training courses, and presenting master classes across a number of their programs. After suffering a career changing injury in 2014, she moved back into the area of personal training, focusing on Pilates and, using skills already acquired, went on to facilitate Pilates instructor courses for a Brisbane based company.

She also has a back ground in dance, having completed two diplomas in that area, and has a wide variety of sporting interests, including hockey, Muay Thai and running.

Sharyn is passionate about the difference Pilates can make to everybody – and every body – having benefited herself from its effects, and seeing significant changes in her clients results after transitioning them toward a more Pilates based strength program. Her approach comes from the theory that Pilates is series of movements, and through movement we can keep the body healthier and feel better long term. Pilates isn’t about perfection – it’s a practice, and each individuals’ practice is unique to that client.

She is intent on building a high level of trust with all her clients, ensuring she will help them move forward with their goals. Helping clients manage pain, and achieve movement they currently believe is not possible is high on her level of commitment to all her clients.

Massage Therapist

Stefanie is a highly skilled massage therapist who began her training in 2011. She is a qualified physiotherapist from Brazil who is currently completing the registration process to work as a physio in Australia.

Stefanie has worked with professional sports clubs in Sao Paulo and with spinal and post-surgical rehabilitation patients. She is passionate about enhancing the well-being of her patients through massage therapy.

In addition to massage techniques, Stefanie uses dry needling to assist her patients to reach their goals. She is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Please note that sessions with Stefanie cannot be claimed with private health funds.

Clare Johnson

Remedial Massage Therapist

Clare has been a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist since graduating in May 2018. She has been a patient of physioFIX on and off for many years and joined our clinic in August 2018 as a part time Remedial Massage Therapist. She works across two different clinics in Brisbane and along with her Touch Football commitments and becoming a mum at the end of 2019 she keeps very busy.

Since becoming a Mum, Clare has taken some interest into helping women throughout their pregnancy. With some upskilling and continual learning in the area of pregnancy massage she believes this area is so important to help ease tension and great for relaxation both pre and post baby.

Her other specialty area of interest is Sports Massage as she has been involved in sports from the age of 6 and believes that massage is the key to keeping you on the sporting field no matter what age. Before graduating she spent two years volunteering with the Redcliffe Dolphin Rugby League Team and also volunteered at the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in 2018.

Clare uses remedial massage techniques to help men, women and children by using a combination of deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and relaxation where needed. She is also registered with Massage Myotherapy Australia.

Physiotherapist

Caitlin graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours (BPhty) in 2016. She listens to your concerns, conducts a professional assessment then works with you to deliver an individualised, targeted physiotherapy and/or Pilates program to achieve your goals.

Caitlin divides her professional time between the clinic and her Rugby Union commitments. Currently she is the physiotherapist for Easts Rugby Union and the Queensland Reds Senior Academy. She has also been involved with the Brisbane City UNRC and URC teams as well as Queensland 7s.

In addition to her interest in sports physiotherapy, she is passionate about Pilates-based exercise and its role in rehabilitation, core strength and body conditioning. Having completed her advanced equipment training, she uses Pilates principles to augment her rehabilitation programs. With her broad-based experience, Caitlin is well qualified to develop a structured rehabilitation pathway from initial injury to a return to pre-injury activity that includes traditional physiotherapy, pilates strength work and higher level gym-based reconditioning. Caitlin loves to see that transition and the confidence that comes from being able to regain and maintain strength and fitness post-injury as well as prevent further recurrence.

Caitlin is a very active person; and is currently training for a half marathon. In a previous life she was a dancer and swimmer before settling on her running.

Nicholas Ballam

Physiotherapist (BPhty BSc Hons 1)

Nick graduated from The University of QLD in 2014 and joined the physioFIX team soon after. He grew up near Inverell in northern NSW before studying chemistry at The University of New England and then Physiotherapy at UQ.

Nick seeks to educate his patients about the nature of their injuries and his treatment, having taught at a university level and spoken at international science conferences. He also has a background in college pastoral care and takes a holistic approach to treatment. Nick is passionate about sport, in particular football and swimming, and will often be found limping around the clinic on Monday mornings after playing in midfield the day before. Nick seeks to continually enhance his knowledge and has attended further education courses including dry needling, shoulder management and hydrotherapy.

Senior Physiotherapist

Tam has been working at PhysioFIX for several years, with a one year hiatus as she travelled Europe with her husband! She graduated from UQ in 1995. Tam has extensive experience as a physiotherapist and Pilates instructor having lived and worked in various parts of Queensland and in a variety of different practices.

Tam loves being a physio because she enjoys the opportunity and challenge of helping people to live life as fully as possible, for as long as possible, and a great way to be able to do this is to help people to manage their pain and to keep them moving as well as they are able. Tam is always keen to learn more and regularly attends courses to expand her range of knowledge and skills to better assist people to be able to stay active.

Catherine graduated from QLD University in 1984 and after 3 years at PA Hospital headed to Alberta, Canada working in hospital and private practice settings. On her return to Brisbane, she joined the Physio Department at UQ working with physiotherapy undergraduates. Further hospital based work followed before Catherine and her husband moved to the UK in 1993. Catherine was fortunate to work in a wide variety of settings both in London and the rural county of Shropshire from Specialist Orthopaedic Hospitals to elite sports practices.

Catherine’s interest in Clinical Pilates was first piqued by her involvement with a local ballet school in Shropshire. Having completed her initial training with ‘Body Control Pilates’ in the UK in 2004, she began teaching Mat-based classes. Since her return to Brisbane in 2006, Catherine has successfully completed the Dance Medicine Australia Levels 1-4 and has been incorporating all aspects of Pilates clinical applications into her physiotherapy practice.

Recently Catherine has added dry needling, trigger point massage and kinesiology taping to her extensive continuing education repertoire. These were all particularly useful when she accompanied the ‘Docceroos’ to the 2011 and 2012 World Medical Football Championships, and are equally handy for the ‘weekend warriors’.

After graduating from Latrobe University in 1991, Jamie worked in public and private hospitals across Melbourne for 3 years, gaining excellent experience across many areas of physiotherapy. He then headed to London and worked as a locum in the National Health System.

After 3 years of English weather, Jamie followed the sun (and his lovely girlfriend, now wife) back to Brisbane. For five years he worked in private practices across the city before opening the doors of physioFIX Holland Park in 2002.

Jamie is a glutton for on-going education. He has studied acupuncture, trigger point massage, muscle energy techniques and Brian Mulligan techniques – to name just a few of his qualifications.

In addition to the hundreds of people Jamie has treated over the years, he has also tended to the collective aches, pains and injuries of AFL, cricket, soccer and volleyball teams.
